V&A Round Table
Victoria and Albert Museum, London
27 November 2015
In November 2015, Principal Investigator Cher Potter co-organised a round table with V&A Deputy Director Beth McKillop (pictured above) to discuss the V&A’s current and future collecting aims for African design. This provided an insightful context and springboard for the AfridesignX research project, which will go on to contribute to a strategy in developing the African design collection at the V&A.
Beth McKillop gave a fascinating summary of the V&A’s engagement historically with arts and design from the African continent. Marion Crick, Head of Collections Management at the V&A, shared the current strategies for dealing with taxonomies and categories of contemporary and digital design in the Museum. Janet Browne, V&A Programme manager for Black Heritage and Culture spoke about bridging the gap between black heritage and post-western perspectives on contemporary design.
